From May 17 to 23, the four blokes will delight people in regional NSW when they join the much loved travelling carnival of vintage themed vehicles and peculiar outfits.
All members are familiar faces in their communities as Adam owns Harrington Hotel, Michael the Ocean Beach Hotel in Shellharbour while Dean Trengrove runs Mulga Hill Tavern in Broken Hill.
Adam is also an AHA NSW Hastings/Manning delegate while John is director of policing and community relations at AHA NSW who are the proud sponsors of the event.
"Dean, Michael and I are all delegates for our areas of the AHA NSW State council," Adam said.
"I've known John for almost 10 years in his role working for the AHA, Dean for 14 years and Michael was my employer at the Cabramatta Inn in 1994. We all get along very well, and enjoy a beer or two to wash away the dust at the end of the day," he said.
The group depart Newcastle Foreshore on Sunday, May 17 for a show stopping 2050km bash around regional NSW, all in support of the children's charity Variety.
The bighearted convoy will embark on a seven day charity motoring event travelling to Marulan, Young, Matong, Hay, Gol Gol, Condobolin, Yeoval, Mudgee, Jerry's Plains and Cessnock before returning to Newcastle's Foreshore for the gala presentation night.
The team vehicle has the AHA logo emblazoned on it, and will join more than 70 novelty pre-1974 vehicles. "Our 1964 EH Holden Wagon is owned by Andrew Randell, a publican in Bathurst who has kindly allowed our AHA team to use on the bash," Adam said.
"It's very basic compared to some of the other bash cars, but it's an amazing and tough old car. In addition to the AHA logo, it is decorated in the colours of our major sponsor the St George bank," Adam said.
Adam, who will be doing his second bash this year, says that while he loves the loud outfits, eccentric characters and 70 outrageous pre-1974 vehicles, it is the adventure, mateship and interaction with the children and seeing how Variety helps Aussie kids in need that has attracted the team to the event.
Last year's Variety AHA NSW Bash raised $685,000 for local kids with unmet needs and delivered more than $45,000 worth of gifts to local schools and communities en route.
