The president of the Rotary Club of Dungog, Bob Humphries who has been in communication with local Rotary Clubs to keep them up to date with developments, explained that cash donations are what is needed more than anything.
Rotary Club of Wingham president Ron Hindmarsh said Wingham Rotary are fully supportive of assistance to Dungog.
“The Dungog community do not need more items such as clothing, as this has created problems now in storing, sorting and distributing.”
“What is needed is cash to help the victims that are in desperate need.” Mr Hindmarsh said.
An account has been set up on behalf of all local Rotary Clubs at the Holiday Coast Credit Union. Proceeds will be accounted for, then transferred to the Dungog Rotary Club.
It’s a small town and having the local Rotary Club, "community group and local council on the ground doing the assessing means that local knowledge comes to the fore in getting the money where it is most needed” Bob Humphies, Dungog Rotary president said.
“ The Dungog community is very grateful for the support we have received but the situation is quite bleak for many people” he sadly added.
Assistant district governor Bruce Moy summed it up when he said that it was a great initiative lead by Taree on Manning president Alan Tickle and as usual all clubs are happy to work together.
“I urge the public to support this appeal” Mr Moy said. “It really is a tragic set of circumstances for those most unfortunate people from Dungog and our heart goes out to them.”
