Bowelscan kits will be available at all local pharmacies in Taree, during May and will also be available at shopping centres at stands conducted by Rotarians during the first week of May.

Rotary will appear at Taree Central from this Saturday, where they be selling the kits for $15.

More than 15,000 Australians are now diagnosed with bowel cancer each year and it is Australia's second biggest cancer killer. More than 4000 of those diagnosed with bowel cancer will prove fatal.

The new kits are simple, highly accurate and require no diet or medication restrictions.

Tests are conducted in the privacy of participant's own homes and are then placed in the envelope provided and posted to the testing laboratory.

They are not to be returned to local pharmacies.

All participants will be notified of their results as well as reported to their local doctor.

People over age of 40 are strongly advised to undertake this simple procedure, although people of any age may participate.
