Sausages and bacon and egg sandwiches, as well as slices, homemade Anzac biscuits and coffee and tea will be available from 5.45am to 9am and then again from 10am at the car park opposite the war memorial and next to Stacks Law offices.

All the proceeds from the event will go to the Sunrise club's first project since forming, which is to put up playground fencing at the riverbank play area.

A need for the fencing has been identified after parents were nervous about their children wandering off towards the water's edge of the Manning River, only five metres away.

All members of the Sunrise club are volunteering their time to provide labour to build the fence in conjunction with Greg Dickson of Manning River Steel, to create a safer place to play and encourage more families to visit the riverbank.

Mitchells Island observance on Sunday

THE cenotaph at St Marks Church Mitchell's Island will be the focus of Anzac Day observance on Sunday April 26.

The community will mark the centenary of Anzac Day in conjunction with the normal scheduled service. The service will be held at 10.30am.

According to parishioner Bob Winston a particular invitation is extended to relatives of the men of Mitchell's Island who gave their lives. From World War I they were W. Brady, J.W. Ritchey, Reg Saunders, Ray Jordan, Edwin Richards, John Owen, Herbert Gyler, Charles Schmitzer, Clive Worland, George Cummins, William Smith, Cecil Fitness, Edward Worland and Hubert Skipper.

Mitchell's Island men lost in WW II were Edward Watson, Fred Burnes and Stan Collins.

"Such shocking losses from a tiny speck on the map of Australia so many years ago deserve to be remembered and honoured," Mr Winston added.
