This year preparations for the special event will focus on the landing at Gallipoli and the sacrifices made there.
The Taree RSL Sub-branch has finalised the plans for this special event and will be joined by our veterans, civic leaders, the many resident and school children who will gather at the memorial clock to commemorate Anzac Day.
The services planned provide the opportunity to pay respect to the fallen, a time to pause and remember the service and sacrifice of sailors, soldiers, airmen and nursing sisters in the Great War of 1914 - 1918, along with World War II, Korean, Malayan , Borneo, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns and current peace-keeping operations throughout the globe.
This year Taree's Anzac Day program will start at 4.45am with a solemn dawn service with a special dedication to those who from Taree who paid the supreme sacrifice.
The Anzac parade will commence at 10am from Macquarie Street and will proceed down Victoria Street to Fotheringham Park.
The commemoration service will be conducted at the memorial clock 10.30am.
The dedication of the "Great War Memorial Walkway 1914 - 1918" will feature during the service. The funding and support for the memorial walk way project was from the Australian government's Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program.
The Taree RSL and Greater Taree City mayor Paul Hogan expect the community to support the centenary of Anzac parades and commemoration services.
Anzac services across the area have been organised to allow the community flexibility to select the location and time that best suits them.
Anzac Day is that special day to stop, reflect and remember. Taree RSL encourages members of the community to place a wreath or tribute on the memorial on this special occasion.
After the Taree ceremonies the Club Taree Concert Band will be conducting a free two hour concert commencing at 2pm at Club Taree and the whole community is invited.
The theme of the concert will be Gallipoli 1915.
This year marks the centenary of Anzac, a milestone of special significance to all Australians.
During the Anzac Centenary 2014 2018 we will remember not only the original Anzacs who served at Gallipoli and the Western Front, but commemorate more than a century of service by all Australians servicemen and women.
