Perfect conditions for a day out on the croquet court.
The Taree on Manning Rotary Club started its inaugural Lawn Sports Cup last Sunday, with the help of members of the Taree Croquet Club, who provided equipment and their knowledge of the rules of the game.
Around 50 attendees enjoyed having a go and according to Rotarian Dusty Walkom OAM, almost every dressed for the occasion.
"The Taree Croquet Club (TCC) were just fantastic. They were thrilled with the turn out and interest in the game.
"There are a few of us who are seriously thinking of joining it as a sport, or even hobby."
The TCC enjoyed the vintage theme of the day and even asked Dusty to make patchwork bunting for their future events.
The vintage theme was all about the details, from the nicely laid out high tea to the vintage dress and cars!
Dressed in frills was the pretty in pink Louise Berghause.
Prints were a popular choice, with Maree Cheney dazzling in polka dots and Dennis Deneen looking striking in stripes.
Men on the court looked dapper in hats, while the ladies flourished in florals.
The competition was won by French Rotary exchange student Thibault Sarzi, Sue and Grant Avery and Phillip Grisold.
The day doubled as a charity function, for Rotary club community projects in the Manning. Around $1500 was raised.
Dusty hopes next year's Lawn Sports Cup will attract other groups in the area for a potential play off.
The Taree on Manning Rotary Club expressed its gratitude to non-Rotarians Mark and Cate Braithwaite, who have enthusiastically embraced Rotary's ethos of raising money for community projects and did a lot of work to put on the day.
