Scott Loxley, the man walking solo around Australia in a Stormtrooper costume to raise money for Monash Children's Hospital, stopped over at Old Bar on the weekend, taking the opportunity to do some running repairs on his trusty trolley.
It was a rare day off for Scott, who has been on the road since November 2, 2013 in an effort to raise $100,000 for the hospital.
Scott is a member of the 501st Legion, an international not-for-profit Star Wars costuming organisation that give their time to raise funds for charity.
Throughout his arduous trek Scott has been exposed to extreme heat, downpours, snakes, dingoes, sandstorms and bushfires, as well as a spending a huge amount of time away from his Melbourne-based family.
Usually charity walkers have a support crew to aid them over long distances, but Scott's effort is even more noteworthy because he has done it solo, pushing his trolley full of supplies along.
"It's got everything I need to live on the side of the road for 18 months," said Scott about his trusty trolley.
On extremely hot days, Scott has had to sleep through the day and walk at night.
He often camps by the side of the road, and has resorted to eating fresh road kill and snakes in more isolated parts of the country.
"When it's weeks between towns, it's all about surviving," Scott said.
Scott cited the "isolation" as one of the most challenging factors of his walk.
"Physically, I'm doing okay," Scott said.
"The hardest thing is the mental side, for sure."
Friend and associate of the 501st Legion, Old Bar resident Terry Shoobridge, said that Scott had been through "14,000 kilometres of hell."
"It's amazing to see what he's been through," Terry said.
Scott hopes to be finished his walk within the next two months as he nears the last leg of the trip back to Melbourne.
"The support from everyone around the country has been unreal," Scott said.
If there's one thing that can be taken from Scott's astonishing journey, it's that the force is strong with this one.
