Doreen Bignell from Lansdowne bought a picture at an op shop in Wauchope about six months ago.
Recently she decided to replace the picture but when she opened it she found this photo of an Australian soldier, believed to be from World War II, underneath.
"I thought there'd be a name on the back or some kind of identification,'' Doreen said.
"But there's nothing.''
"There's a name Tyndall on the photo, but this is probably the photographer."
Doreen hopes someone in the solider's family will recognise the photo.
"It's a fitting time of year,'' she said.
"And it would be nice if someone from his family could reclaim it.''
The photo is currently at the Manning River Times. Anyone who may know the identity can phone 6552 1988.
