Taree and District Eisteddfod Committee president Tim Stack OAM said he was proud to open the 48th annual Taree and District Eisteddfod.
"We have a 162 event program and we are ready to start," Mr Stack said.
The president welcomed the first section of competitors at 1.30pm on Monday.
"It takes a lot of courage to get on this great big stage," Mr Stack said warmly to those waiting to do their performance.
The first section was vocal, with six competitors, 10 years and under, and they came from a range of area codes, with competitors coming from Taree, Forster/Tuncurry, Kempsey and the Newcastle area.
The official accompanists for this section are Mr Don Secomb and Ms Mei Wei Lim.
The adjudicator for the vocal section is the well regarded Mrs Peta Blyth OAM.
The vocal program is put together by Deirdre Sutherland and sponsored by Mayo Private Hospital Taree.
After this week the eisteddfod takes a break until May 2 when the piano section will begin. Competition concludes on June 3 and the grand concert is on June 6.
