Joshua, of Burrell Creek was selected for the under 11s national team after playing at the Fustal Nationals in Sydney as a member of the Mid North Coast representative side.
More than 300 kids from all over Australia played at the competition, with Josh one of two Mid North Coast players selected.
He is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.
Joshua’s father Justin said that his son’s selection was proof that “you don’t have to live in a big city to have opportunities such as this.
“With a little hard work and determination, he got selected,” he said.
Joshua said he was “really excited” about the opportunity, but was also understandably nervous about the big trip.
He will receive professional coaching on the 11-day tour, with the Australian team set to play various American representative teams.
Joshua also plays representative soccer for the Mid North Coast, making for a hectic weekend schedule as he races between club games, rep tournaments and training.
Joshua nominates soccer megastars Tim Cahill, Messi and Ronaldo as his sporting inspirations.
With four other children to run around after, Joshua’s family has started a campaign in order to help raise funds for his overseas trip.
