THE Brisbane Spartans touring party will jump on a bus on Friday night for the long trek to Taree for an action packed weekend of basketball promotion.

CJ Bruton represented Australia at two Olympic Games, one world championships as well as winning the National Basketball League (NBL) with the Sydney Kings and New Zealand Breakers, where he was awarded the Most Valuable Player in the 2012 finals series.
He will head up the Brisbane Spartans group as their newly appointed head coach.
The weekend activities tip off on Saturday when the Brisbane Spartans hit the training floor at Taree Christian College at 8am for a two- hour session before putting young basketballers in school years eight to 12 through a skills sessions from 10.30 to 12.30, also at the Taree Christian College.
They will then be at the Purfleet basketball court for an hour from 1.30pm to provide a buzz for basketball in the community before heading to Saxby's Stadium where another skills clinic is to be conducted for younger children in school years eight and below.
Taree Basketball will then host a dinner/auction at the Taree West Bowling Club where the relaxed atmosphere will allow basketball fans to mingle with high level basketball talent during the meal and throughout the auction where items will go under the hammer to assist the future development programs for the Taree Tornadoes junior representatives. Sunday at Saxby's Stadium it will be back to the training floor for the Brisbane Spartans between 8am and 10am before a sausage sizzle and some fun activities for the children, their parents and sponsors before the bus leaves the Taree Recreation Centre around 2.30 for the return trip to the Queensland capital. Finals of the term one Saturday school Basketball will also be played at Saxby's Stadium tomorrow and are sure to provide plenty of exciting basketball.
