Mr Ballantine has been a member of the Greens for seven years.
He first joined the party when he lived in the Blue Mountains and found himself shouting at the television.
Realising his energy might be better spent doing something about it, he joined the Greens.
He describes himself as a people person who loves to solve problems.
As a visitor to the Great Lakes for more than 20 years, he moved to Green Point in November in semi-retirement from a career in retail for major franchises, as well as working in workplace training and assessment.
He has transferred his interest in volunteering at the Blue Mountain's neighbourhood centre to the neighbourhood centre in Forster, which he said does fundamental work in the community, and has tuned him in very quickly to the needs of the area.
His main interests concern drops in TAFE funding leading to the marginalisation of educational opportunities, protecting the water supply from coal seam gas mining, change brought on by the end of the fossil fuel age, funding for refuges for women and children in crisis, and reinvigorating the interest in the Greens in the Myall Lakes electorate.
He is still shouting at the television, but he said he now knows what he can do about it.
