The parklet consumes one parking space and is a continuation of the Vibrant Spaces campaign.
Greater Taree City Council senior leader for planning and environmental services Richard Pamplin said the approval of the parklet is about continuing the revival of the CBD.
"That's what we're trying to do with Vibrant Spaces - we're trying to get away from the regulatory red tape, and it's about saying 'let's give it a go'," he said.
"The trial period is in place and is a practical way of receiving feedback from our community."
Owner of the Sicilian Restaurant, Gabriel Omid Darzi, completely funded the project, with local building company Sorensen and Caldon carrying out construction.
Gabriel said the parklet was about increasing foot traffic throughout the whole CBD.
"I am doing this for the benefit of the community," said Gabriel.
"We really want to increase (foot) traffic through the CBD."
The Sicilian plans to offer Wi-Fi as well as opening up its restrooms to the public as an additional support to the parklet.
The parklet is available to the general public and would not be solely restricted to The Sicilian's patrons.
According to Gabriel it's all part of making the CBD more inviting.
"We want to create business, we want people to walk into every shop here."
The move has been heavily supported by council.
"We are encouraged by local businesses being proactive and working together," Mr Pamplin said.
