Councillors Peter Epov and Kathryn Bell this week submitted the Notice of Motion and according to Cr Epov, “the motion allows the council to take back control of the agenda, to diffuse public concern and to demonstrate sound leadership by endorsing a road map for future decision-making.”

“The aim of this motion is to be constructive; to recognise and respect the widespread and organic community opposition to the parks sell-off plan and to simultaneously layout a salient road map for any future consideration of the sale of community assets,” Cr Epov said.

“It is very clear that there is significant and growing public resistance and hostility that is bordering on outrage over this plan and council now needs to be mature enough to listen to and accede to public opinion on this very emotive and sensitive issue. This plan should not become the forum that divides our community, nor should it cause unnecessary anguish and distress.

“It is also very clear that there has been a failure to effectively explain this plan with the result that there are many in the community that are confused; who do not understand the proposal nor do they see its merits.”
