ROBIN and Daryl Wells marriage has bloomed for 50 years.
The pair, originally from Wollongong, met when Robin ventured up to Daryl's family's 'chook business'.
One of their earliest outings together was to the Trochadero dance hall in Sydney.
Daryl had worked at Coles and they attended the dance with 134 other Coles workers.
When living on the South Coast Robin and Daryl ran Daryl's family business 'Kembla Orchids'.
The business started for Daryl's parents when herself and sister Davidena, gifted them an orchid for their wedding anniversary.
"We said to Mum one day let's visit an orchid nursery and we came back one day with 50, and that was it," said Daryl.
After successfully manning the business for a number of years, the Wells moved to the Mid North Coast in 1989.
After attended the World Expo in Brisbane in 1988, the Wells stopped in to Taree where they spotted a nice block of land perfect to continue their passion and career in growing orchids.
Daryl suggested it wouldn't be a bad spot to retire, and as Robin describe: "It was fate."
"Everything we did at that time worked really well," Robin said.
Here they immersed themselves in the garden life of the Manning Valley.
They both enjoyed working at Tinonee Orchids, and joining the Manning River Orchid Society and Taree District Garden Club.
Daryl is also a member of the Probus club.
To celebrate their 50th anniversary the Wells are off on a cruise, although this definitely isn't the first holiday adventure they have shared.
Together they have taken many cruises and flown over 100 flights venturing to America and across Asia numerous times.
Their most interesting trip taken was to Saudi Arabia, to visit their son Peter who worked there for nine years.
On the day of their wedding anniversary Daryl and Robin were joined by family at Harrigan's Irish Pub for dinner.
Daryl's sister Davidena and husband Bill Obrien, who were bridesmaid and best man at their wedding, travelled from Wollongong for the celebration.
The Wells have three children Racheal, Monica and Peter and 10 grand children Kareelah, Sherena, Carissa, Lyndal, Lachlan, Hayley, Medinah, Clayton, Brock and Nahlah.
On the Wells' return from overseas they will get back to helping organise the next orchid show in Taree.
