TAREE'S Troy Bayliss will extend his World Superbike comeback tour to one more event and race for Ducati at the Thailand round of the championship later in March.

Bayliss, who turns 46 on March 30, make a shock return from a seven-year retirement to deputise for an injured Davide Giugliano at the opening round of the championship at Phillip Island last month.

With Giugliano still recovering, and the ultra-competitive Bayliss's appetite suitably whetted, his leathers are packed for the championship's maiden trip to the south east Asian nation.

"I'm really excited to be able to ride the Panigale R again and I thank the Aruba.it Racing - Ducati Superbike Team for the opportunity," Bayliss said in a team statement.

"It will be great to work with the team again."

Bayliss was visibly frustrated at the end of the Phillip Island weekend. Thrown in the deep end having not rode a World Superbike-spec Ducati in several years, he gradually improved his lap times until he was on the leaders' pace in the final race of the weekend.

The Thai round puts him on a level playing field with his rivals, none of whom have any experience of the Chang circuit.

And Bayliss intends to be race-ready and match fit.

"Compared to the Phillip Island round, organised pretty much at the last minute, this time I've had the chance to train and prepare myself properly," he explained.

"I'm really motivated and feeling ready; I can't wait to get back on track."

The factory Ducati team has also confirmed that Giugliano, who fractured two vertebrae in a testing crash, will not return to racing until at least the fifth round of the championship in Italy.

The team has not confirmed who will substitute for the Italian at the third and fourth round.

The inaugural Thailand round of the Superbike World Championship takes place on March 20-22.
