Intricate origami folds shape each crane that is the symbol of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation and it represents longevity and good fortune.
Marcella is a director and ambassador of the foundation and will come to Taree to speak of her experience of brain cancer as she supported her husband, broadcaster Stan Zemanek, following his diagnosis of a Glimona Grade 4 malignant brain tumour.
Marcella endured much of the public scrutiny as she supported Stan through his journey of surgery, treatment and death. The trauma served as a catalyst for Marcella to embrace her family's experience of the disease to support the Cure For Life Foundation, the organisation that seeks to fund brain cancer research to try to increase five-year survival to 50 per cent within 10 years, and become a director and ambassador of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Her story, Stan's story and the challenges and successes faced by brain cancer researchers will be the focus of the International Women's Day event on March 7.
Quota International of Taree will host Marcella at St John's Anglican Church Hall in Taree and club spokeswoman, Jeanette Holland urges Manning Valley women to attend to support Marcella and assist the club to raise funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Mrs Holland says the decision to host a 6pm event "provides the best opportunity for most women to be able to attend."
She described Marcella "as an amazing woman" and urges the community to support her by attending the event.
Tickets to the International Women's Day event must be purchased at Movies, Games and More in Victoria Street, Taree by Tuesday, March 3. The cost is $25 per person.
