It's a scenario that fills year 10 formal attendees with dread, but Lisa Wilkinson and Samantha Armytage have managed to wow on the Oscars red carpet while wearing very similar frocks.

   

The rival breakfast show hosts, who are both reporting live from the 87th annual Academy Awards, have shared their near-identical black lace dresses on Instagram.

Wilkinson, 55, is reporting for the Today show dressed in a Pallas Couture frock with a voluminous princess-worthy train, while 37-year-old Armytage is doing her duty for Sunrise in a more slimline style from Rachel Gilbert.

Not content with just matching their dresses, it seems the presenters were also of the same mind when it came to their choice of footwear.

Both women decided to shun the traditional stiletto heel, with Wilkinson wearing sports trainers under her gown while Armytage opted to feel the red carpet between her toes and go barefoot.

 

"Sometimes at the #Oscars, you just gotta take a load off," Wilkinson said in an Instagram post revealing her bright white trainers.

 

While Armytage, posting a picture of her bare feet to Instagram, joked, "You can take the girl out of Wagga..."
