Likewise, Jake knows Callum has a turn of speed that can burn would-be defenders.
It’s inside knowledge that’ll count when the two go head-to-head this weekend in a Harold Matthews Cup game between the Knights and the Roosters.
Callum, a rangy winger, will play for the Knights, and Jake, a fleet-footed halfback, will play for the Roosters.
The two admit that they’ll be putting “a bit extra” into the tackle if they happen to run into one another on the playing field.
The match, to be played in Newcastle, has all the makings of a blockbuster game, with the two local boys in red-hot form.
Both boys said they had “learned a lot” from their representative experience, with the fitness in particular much harder than their usual club commitments.
The Harold Matthews Cup is the premier State competition for under 16s representative players.
They hope to reach the next age group in NRL representation, the under 18s S G Ball, in the coming years.
During their 10 years playing together at club level, the Rovers have taken out six junior league premierships in a row.
The boys will once again team up for the Rovers when their representative commitments are over in early May.
Taree High student and Taree Panthers product Matt Croker will also line up in the Harold Matthews competition this weekend.
Matt, a prop, will captain the Knights in their Saturday clash against the Roosters.
