Doyle clocked 1 hour 06.47 for the journey. This followed Lake Macquarie’s Tim Lang’s win in the overall race.
Odette Hodgson from Toowoon Bay was second in 1.07.25 in the women with Darleen Cheney from Port Macquarie third.
Doyle said she enjoyed the race.
“It was great,’’ she beamed.
“Especially the beach run at the end. I haven’t done that before. The sand was nice and hard so there were no problems.
“The first man and first woman from Newcastle, that’s fanastic,’’ she added.
Doyle’s next assignment will be in Devonport for an Olympic distance qualifying race.
“I love to travel with triathlon. It’s good fun,’’ she said.
“I get to see all parts of Australia and the world.’’
“There’s a whole crew of us who came here from Newcastle. We’ll make it a regular thing.’’
