However, as has been well advertised, the match will be the centrepiece of a day of festivities at Taree's antiquated football headquarters. Gates will open at noon with activities kicking off at 1.30pm. There'll be plenty to do for patrons there to watch the action including face painting and a jumping castle.
First onto the park will be players in the second of the three match Gungie Origin fixture, which pits a team made up of members of the Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Police Command against the Dundaloo Support Group. The Dundaloo squad currently holds a 1-0 lead in the series following an impressive win in oppressive heat last November.
The alleged 'main game' is underway from 3pm. As mentioned, there will be some legitimate footballing talent on parade.
Danny Buderus will lead the charge - the former Australian and NSW State of Origin hooker and Newcastle Knights great returning home for the day.
Jordan Worboys is a one time Old Bar Pirate who has had stints with Canberra's under 20 side and North Sydney's NSW Cup team in the last couple of years. He's be strutting his stuff tomorrow before heading off to join the Newcatle ranks. Kylie Hilder will also be there. The Taree touch product was last week named in the Australian Touch All Stars team to meet the Indigeneous All Stars next month on the Gold Coast as part of the NRL All Stars program. Later this year she'll wear the green and gold for the Australian mixed team in the World Cup and that'll be her finale to big time touch. Former world boxing champ Arlene Blencowe's also no slouch when it comes to league tag. It'll be handy to be on her side if it gets a bit heated as well.
As for the rest, well, it's a bit of a lottery.
Greater Taree City Council will be represented by councillors Kathryn Bell, Brad Christensen and Alan Tickle. If nothing else they'll see first hand how badly Taree needs a decent footy ground. Funnyman Andy Saunders will no doubt have his supporters while 2RE MAX FM's Anthony Zanos and Luis Zacher, who apparently is aka Lui from the Radio will also don the colours. The Times will be represented, albeit reluctantly and not for too long by Mick McDonald.
Tomorrow night there will be a gala dinner at the Winning Post Function Centre from 6.30pm. The versatile Andy Saunders will be the compere and Jake Davey will provide the music. The re will be charity auction where intems including a signed Liverpool FC ball, signed and framed Kangaroos and English rugby league jumpers, travel packages, household appliances and more will go under the hammer. All proceeds from the day go to the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat at Forster and the Bryson Challenge.
