New Zealand is an ideal destination for the class due to its strong film, web design and animation community.
For ten days they will be taking advantage of this by participating in a number of relevant workshops and tours.
The group of eight's adventure will begin in Wellington, where they will visit Weta Digital. Weta Digital is a world leading visual effects company responsible for the effects in films like the award winning Avatar. They will also visit Wellington museum to see its great animation displays.
Next they will travel to Rotarua and gain a more cultural side of the country, by participating in a traditional Maori cooking method know as 'Hāngi'.
In Auckland they will visit Icehouse, a company specialising in start ups and business growth. They will also get to meet and learn from a social media entrepreneur and a game app developer. Some students have even arranged work experience with a gaming company.
The jam packed trip also importantly includes a trip to the film set of The Hobbit.
Lei Bush, a student of the class is looking forward to the trip "broadening our minds."
Especially since most attending the trip have never been outside Australia.
To go on the trip the class gained a scholarship to participate in the Vocational Education Training (VET) Outbound Mobility Program. The VET Outbound Mobility Program is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE). The program is about promoting opportunities for more Australians to have an international study experience, particularly at the tertiary education level.
Unfortunately the scholarship doesn't fund the trip entirely. With extra money needed for transport and activities.
To fund this the class have put together a market stall for the HUB this weekend.
From 9am to 1pm they will be selling posters, bookmarks, bracelets and photographs by student Liam Worth and teacher Scott Calvin. They will also be providing face painting and facial massages, at a cost.
