More than 80 staff, volunteers and invited guests were treated to the year in review, the election of office bearers and a sumptuous lunch while being entertained by master of ceremonies George Hoad.
Mave Richardson was again elected unopposed as president of MSS and her presidential address praised the staff and volunteers for the quality of the services delivered and their overall commitment to MSS and the general community.
"I would like to make special mention of the State and federal funding bodies and the strong partnerships formed with local organisations including CatholicCare, Wesley Employment and Training, Mission Australia and Uniting Care Burnside," she said.
"Without them MSS would not be in the strong position it is today."
Mave also mentioned the excellent volunteers MSS has.
"MSS volunteer Nancy Sanford was a finalist in the Myall Lakes Community Awards for Citizen of the Year and MSS received the award for Myall Lakes Community Group of the Year, an excellent achievement when you consider the number, strength and diversity of community groups operating in the electorate."
Robert Hartup's treasurers report was presented in his absence by the MSS finance administration manager, Rebecka Laidlaw, who explained that "with income of $2.8 million MSS was able to expand on and deliver a wide number of innovative programs and still return a strong surplus," she said.
"Continuous improvement and systems review were key points as was strong fiscal accountability in line with funding body guidelines and Australian accounting standards."
MSS general manager Robert Cooke gave a snapshot of program highlights which included home safety where 131 families received more than 2000 hours of lawn mowing and yard maintenance, 206 home modifications valued in excess of $220,000 were effected and more than 700 hours of home maintenance completed.
Robert said that "the social support programs of neighbour aid and respite options delivered more than 22,735 hours of social support and 1450 hours of domestic assistance to Hastings and Manning clients.
A number of staff and volunteers were presented with five and 10 year service awards in recognition of their efforts and commitment to the service and clients.
