This is being built between turn one and turn two.
“It was the area where we used to have semi-trailers parked for spectators, so it wasn’t a very good use of space,’’ Mr Nelson said.
Mr Nelson said the work was only able to be carried out because of an agreement with Roy and Anne Cross, who live next to the track.
“It’s half on our land and half on their’s,’’ he explained.
“So we needed their permission.’’
Mr Nelson explained the club was utilising dirt from a mount in the centre of the track to construct the spectator facility.
This would have the added advantage of making it easier for the crowd to get a better look at the action on track once the mound is gone.
“It’s a win-win for us,’’ he said.
“This is something we’ve been looking at for a couple of months but it’s has taken time because we’ve had to get soil testing and a few other things done.’’
A crowd of around 6500 crammed into the track last January for the Bayliss Classic. Mr Nelson said the work should be completed before January 17, the date for the next classic. Tickets are already on sale.
