Competitors aged between seven and 17 will contest track and field events in a bid to qualify for the regional championships in Tamworth and ultimately the State championships in Sydney next March.
The track at Old Bar Reserve in co-operation with Greater Taree City Council has undergone a transformation in readiness for the championships, along with a newly laid triple jump run up and landing pit.
The athletes and families will be from 10 centres from as far as Nambucca in the north to Gloucester and Forster.
It is expected most will begin arriving in the Manning from Friday in readiness of the weekends' championships.
The zone championships at Old Bar represent the first major athletic event hosted by the hard working and enthusiastic Old Bar Little Athletics centre committee.
Events start at 8am on both Saturday and Sunday.
