"The Summer Reading Club is a national program that encourages young readers to read throughout the school holidays," community outreach librarian, Debbie Horgan said.
"This year we encourage parents and their children to come along and register at the library and have a look at the fun and interactive summer reading club website which features games, competitions and guest appearances by Australian authors and illustrators, and underpins the Summer Reading Club program."
In 2013 more than 36,000 children and young people participated in the club, from more than 1000 public libraries.
Adventure is the theme of this year's program and volcanoes, pirates, helicopters, jungle escapades, wild animals, dodging danger, staying a step ahead of your arch nemesis, and journeys beyond your wildest imagination are all part of the Summer Reading Club fun.
Manning Valley Libraries will launch the Summer Reading Club on Monday December 1, and young readers and their families are invited to come into any Manning Valley Library from 4pm to learn all about the program, register online and enjoy light refreshments. Taree Library will be open until 6pm so families can pop in after work to register and have a chat with staff and see what the Summer Reading Club website has to offer young readers this year.
Club members will receive a Summer Reading Club pack when they register which includes: a reading log, adventure pass, book mark and wrist band. When they complete their 10 book reading log they'll receive an invitation to an exclusive Summer Reading Club pizza and movie party at the Manning Entertainment Centre in late January where there will be great prizes up for grabs and lots of fun and games. Get your adventure pass stamped each time you borrow from your library and after five stamps you will receive a party invitation for a friend.
If you can't make it to the launch - you can also register online at home at www.summerreadingclub.org.au and then collect your Summer Reading Club pack from your library until Saturday, January 10, 2015.
The Manning Valley Libraries school holiday program will also be available from your library as of Monday, December 1, and it's jam-packed with lots of holiday fun, including movie screenings, cooking workshops, bingo, National Parks and wildlife activities and loads more.
