Greater Taree City Council manage over 1,000 hectares of parks and reserves, many of which are hardly used by residents and visitors to our area.
Each year GTCC receive lots of requests from community members for improvements in the more highly utilised parks and in response theyhave prepared a draft Open Space Improvement Plan, which details a funding proposal to embellish those spaces through rationalisation of those spaces that are not frequently used.
Improvements include: shade shelters, play equipment, walking tracks, cycleways, BBQ facilities and seating, which are all ideas that have been identified by sporting and community groups over the years. GTCC would love to hear if you have more ideas.
The plan also identifies the smaller underutilised reserves that we would like to either sell or dedicate to other organisations to reduce our maintenance costs and raise revenue for the improvements.
You can view the Open Space Improvement Plan on the GTCC website and while they are always available for a chat, from next week theywill have the proposals hanging in poster format in the foyer of our administration building, so if you are in the area why don’t you stop by and have a look.
GTCC will also be talking to neighbours who live around the parks and reserves identified for sale in the coming months.
