"We've won this division for the last four years,'' Manning's Wade Harry explained.
"Our coach has told us this is going to be a tough tournament. So it's going to be interesting.''
Wade was named in the squad after the State titles where he was a member of the Manning side that won the division two championship. He is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.
Manning dominated the title, going through the four pool games and semi-final undefeated before thrashing Tamworth (2) 13-0 in the decider. There's no indoor hockey played in the Manning although the side came together under coach Steve Parvin about six weeks before going to State, with training sessions held at Taree PCYC.
However, Wade wasn't too confident about his chances of making the State team.
"I looked around and saw the players who I thought would get selected and I didn't think I'd make it,'' he explained, adding that he thought the fact he's still eligible for 15s next year might count against him. So it was a pleasant surprise when he was informed he had been named.
The squad will have two training sessions in Wollongong before heading to Melbourne in January.
Wade likes the frantic pace of the indoor game.
"Because it's so fast you have to be fitter,'' he said.
He also enjoyed a busy year playing outdoor. He was a member of the NSW Blues side that finished sixth in the Australian titles held in Perth - the event won by the NSW No 1 team.
"We were the second side and there were 12 teams in it, so to get sixth was a good effort,'' he said.
Wade also played for Sharks in the Manning A-grade competition. Sharks lost to Tigers in the final. He was a member of the Sharks under 15s that upset Chatham in the grand final and also the victorious under 18 team.
Playing A-grade was a great experience, he said.
Wade also believes the youthful Sharks side, where the majority of members are still teenagers, will give plenty of cheek in the competition in 2015.
In A-grade he usually plays in the halves or forwards, while he's a back or centre half in juniors.
But Wade doesn't limit himself to hockey.
He also played in the centres for Taree Panthers under 14s rugby league team. Panthers were finalists last season.
He enjoys league for a different reason. In hockey he's expected to perform, especially in junior matches. It's a bit different in league, where there's not as much pressure on him.
Wade attends St Clare's High School.
