Now a group of schoolmates have taken a trip down memory lane at a special reunion on Saturday.
Former Taree High School students caught up for their 50 year reunion at Club Taree.
The reunion featured students from the Leaving Certificate Year of 1964 and those who left the group when they completed the Intermediate Certificate in 1962.
Many in attendance hadn't seen their fellow students in 50 years, with others having caught up at their 25th and 30th reunions.
Former students travelled from far and wide from places such as Indonesia, Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia, the ACT, Sydney and the Central Coast.
Just over 100 attended the reunion, made up of 70 former students, three former teachers and their partners.
Reunion organising committee member Trish Richardson was one of a number of attendees to address the crowd.
She reflected on how fortunate students were to be here and enjoying their 50th, when many of their colleagues didn't have the chance to fulfil their dreams, as she read out the names of the 22 former students who had passed away.
Among the many highlights were the photo board of past school days, and rotating photos on a screen which would have no doubt brought back a lot of memories.
Class of 1964 student and one of the reunion organising committee Kaye Christensen said those in attendance didn't want the reunion to end.
"It was an absolutely delightful day and we felt rather flat on Sunday that it had all ended," she said.
"Attendees lists with email contacts were handed out with promises of mini get-togethers already organised.
"And the committee is already receiving many calls and emails of congratulations, and people asking when is the next one."
Kaye said it was an emotional day as the past memories came flooding back.
"The feeling was powerful for me, and likewise for most I am sure," she said.
"I had been waiting for a few special ones (people) from 50 years ago, and they had been at Taree Primary with a few of us too from kindergarten.
"It was just magical seeing them and no one stopped smiling all day."
