However, race club chairman Greg Coleman stressed there's no time frame yet in place for the work to start.
As Times' racing correspondent Doug Ryan pointed out in his Inside Racing column recently, it will depend on how quickly Racing NSW gets the necessary contracts, tenders, plans and work in progress.
"It won't happen this year,'' Mr Coleman said of the work.
He added the Taree club is happy to assist Port.
"We enjoy a good working relationship with Port,'' Mr Coleman said.
However, he added his club is mindful of conducting extra meetings at Bushland Drive during winter.
"We race twice in June, twice in July and three times in August,'' he said.
"We have to give our track time to recover. And if there's rain during winter the track doesn't dry out as quickly, so we'd take that into consideration.''
However, Mr Coleman said if the work starts in spring/summer, Taree will be in a position to take the additional meetings. He believes Coffs Harbour and Kempsey will also take meetings.
Mr Coleman believes the Port club will also be keen to ensure there's no disruption to the club's cup carnival run in October.
"It's been proven in the past that locals just don't support a cup carnival when it's moved to another town,'' he said.
"And I'd also say Port would be keen to ensure there's no disruption to their popular New Year's Day meeting.''
Port Macquarie CEO Michael Bowman told Inside Racing this month that he estimated the work would take six months.
A major redevelopment of the Bushand Drive track was carried out in the early 1990s meaning Taree had to move meetings for nearly 18 months. The majority went to Port Macquarie although others were held at Kempsey and Wingham. The Wingham track has since closed.
However, Mr Coleman points out the racing industry has changed dramatically since then when the majority of meetings were non-TAB and racing on Saturdays.
Meanwhile, racing returns to the Bushland Drive track on Friday for the 130th running of Krambach Race Club's cup carnival.
