Who do you play and what are some of the interesting things about your character?
I play the character of Naomi Bartlett, a 27-year-old real estate agent.
She is the 'other woman' in the play and not liked very much by the other girls. She has been having an affair with James, who is Meg's husband, for the past couple of months and he ended the affair just two weeks ago. She is in love with James but he sees the affair as just a bit of fun. Naomi gets an unexpected invitation to Meg's wedding in the mail and that's how she finds out that he is engaged. She is devastated and is then invited to be Meg's 'last minute step in bridesmaid'. As you can imagine it all goes down hill for her from that point onwards.
What previous experience have you had in theatre/performing?
I began performing in musicals for the Taree Arts Council as a young teenager.
I received singing and drama tuition and was involved in eisteddfod annually.
After completing my HSC I attended university at the University of Wollongong where I completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in performance.
I am currently the music and drama teacher at Bungwahl Public School and am loving sharing my passion for the arts!
Shows you have been involved in?
I began as a teenager in 'Joseph and His Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat'. I have played pink lady 'Jan' in the musical 'Grease' and a nun in 'Sound of Music'. I have also performed in 'South Pacific', 'Anything Goes', 'The Full Monty' and as a Kit Kat Club girl in 'Cabaret'.
What have you enjoyed most about the rehearsal process?
Getting to know all of the cast as they are new cast members to the art society. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Bruce (Wiseman) and Paul (Eade) and love the approach they takes towards directing. We have had a heap of laughs!
Have there been any challenges or surprises you've encountered during the process?
The challenge of discovering the background to my character. She is not a mean person, she did not know that he was engaged and by the time she found out she already really liked him.
Please tell us about yourself - what do you do for work, hobbies, family etc?
I am K-2 classroom teacher at Bungwahl Public School with a keen interest in musical theatre. I grew up in Taree, now living at Forster.
What motivated you to audition for this show?
I wanted to be involved in a play that was directed by Bruce as I never have before.
I have a keen interest in comedies and wanted to try a production with only a small cast, as opposed to large scale musicals.
Taree Arts Council has an excellent reputation for producing quality shows.
What can the audience expect/enjoy about the show?
The audience should expect a barrel of laughs! A great opportunity to have a ladies' night out with your friends - but also suitable for the men.
Everyone will be able to identify with at least one of the characters in the play.
How are you preparing for your role?
I am creating a 'background' to my character and character profile, discussing my character with other people in the play to find out how they believe their character relates to mine.
I am continuously experimenting with my dialogue and the way I deliver my lines.
