Club officials were informed of the decision this week.

TMC president Craig Nelson described this as a 'great coup' for the club. However, he said the national junior championships will not be held at Old Bar, contrary to what he had previously been told.

In June this year the club hosted the Australian dirt track championships held over two days.

"We had a crowd of around 1500 to 2000 for the second day when the finals were held,'' Mr Nelson said.

"We'd be looking at a similar crowd for the long track titles next year.''

Mr Nelson said the club has yet to be informed when the event will be held.

He added that all the major national titles will be conducted at oil-based tracks at Taree, Gunnedah and Kempsey next year.

Troy Bayliss provided the highlight for this year's dirt track championships when he won three events - the pro 450, pro 350 and open.

This was the first time Bayliss had won an Australian championship in his stellar career that includes three World Superbike titles.

Meanwhile Taree won their own round, but still finished last in the tri-series event that concluded at Kempsey on Sunday. Three clubs, Taree, Gunnedah and Kempsey were involved.

Kempsey was the overall winner on 13,000 points followed by Gunnedah on 10,000 with Taree on 9000.

Gunnedah held a big lead in the pointscore following the opening round held in Gunnedah.

Each rider who contests the series earns points for their club.

"It comes down to numbers,'' Mr Nelson said.

"We won our own round on Saturday, finishing with 5000 points. However both Gunnedah and Kempsey had more riders than us at the other two rounds.

"We'll just have to get more of our riders to travel next year.''

He said each club won the round they hosted.

"Home ground advantage obviously played a big part,'' he said

Bayliss, his son Ollie, Aaron Jarvis and Jack Hyde were among the class winners at the Taree round.

Mr Nelson said the series is growing.

"Even though it's still just the three clubs involved, more riders are joining to race,'' he said.

"Ever since Troy became involved the profile of the series has grown.''

The next major event at the Old Bar Roadside Circuit will be the Bayliss Classic to be run in January, where Bayliss will be the defending title holder.
