The NSW SES is warning residents about the likelihood of heavy rain damaging winds and large seas affecting the Mid North Coast beginning around Tuesday (October 14) afternoon and continuing into Wednesday (October 15).
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) have issued a Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds, heavy rain and damaging surf for the Mid North Coast as a low pressure tough over the central part of the state develops a low pressure system develop within it and then moves in a north easterly direction.
At this stage it expected that the southern parts of the Mid North Coast will receive the heaviest rainfall totals. Over the later part of Tuesday and into Wednesday widespread falls of between 30mm – 50mm across the Mid North Coast are anticipated with the potential for localised heavier falls of between 70mm to 150mm also possible over this period.
The NSW SES advises residents to closely monitor the developing weather situation and to avoid walking, driving or riding through flood water as the high rainfall totals will lead to an increase risk of flash flooding.
Residents are also to advised take precautions and preparations for the development of damaging winds over the course of Tuesday by moving vehicles under cover or away from trees, keeping clear of any fallen power lines, staying clear of rivers, creeks and stormwater drains and by securing or putting away any loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
NSW SES Mid North Coast Region Controller, Stephen Hart said,” Our key messages to the community are to the avoid driving through flood water, to closely monitor the weather situation and, if emergency assistance is required to call the NSW SES on 132500.”
“This is a timely reminder that we are now well and truly into the storm season and that residents need to consider how they can minimise the impacts storms have on their property and on the safety of their loved ones. ” Mr Hart said.
At this stage a clearing trend is expected to develop sometime during Wednesday afternoon.
