SES Region Controller Stephen Hart issued the warning this afternoon saying the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts very heavy rain in the catchments of the Karuah Valley and Wallis Lakes (Forster/Tuncurry) that could lead to minor flooding.

He says the rain may be heavy enough to cause localised flooding in low-lying areas, as well as causing tributary creeks to break their banks.

"If this weather system intensifies, flooding could develop along the Wallis Lakes. If so, the Bureau will issue Flood Warnings along with the State Emergency Service who will release Flood Bulletins to tell you about the situation and what you should do to protect your family and property. Please listen carefully to these bulletins."

EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON: The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted that severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds this afternoon (October 13).

The warning is for people in the Mid North Coast and parts of the Hunter, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Locations which may be affected include Port Macquarie, Taree, Orange, Mudgee, Bathurst, Walgett, Dubbo, Parkes, Coonabarabran, Wellington, Coonamble and Lightning Ridge.
