The NSW Information Commissioner Elizabeth Tydd will be promoting the rights of individuals in NSW to access government information and the importance of open, transparent government during Right to Know Week 2014. As part of the initiative, GTCC has joined the Information and Privacy Commission as an official partner to spread the message of open government to our stakeholders.
The campaign kicked off on Sunday, September 28 with International Right to Know Day, with this year's themes in NSW including open government information; know your rights and celebrating five years of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA ACT) in NSW.
Greater Taree City Council's public officer and senior leader Jane Ree said the week promoted the right to public access to government information.
"The initiative aligns with Right to Know Day on September 28, an international annual event aimed at increasing awareness of individuals' right to access government information and open, transparent governance," she said.
"Taree council is progressively making more and more public information available on our website, and we have recently upgraded the policy page at taree.cc/policies where we have published a framework that provides the detailed context for how policy decisions are made in council, and how policy guides our operations,"?Ms Ree said.
"We are also developing a new website which will be available before the end of this year, making it much easier for the public to search and access information held by us.
"We are proud to promote our commitment to open access to information for the people of NSW as an official partner of Right to Know Week 2014 in NSW."
