Her visit co-incided with the 75th anniversary of the heritage listed Old Bar airstrip. During the official opening an RAAF Caribou landed on the small strip after first flying overhead, just as acting Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile and VIP Nancy Bird Walton were unveiling the festival sculpture by Ted Prior. Nancy Bird Walton stayed on for the second day of festivities, meeting and greeting the public and signing copies of her book.
The festival was described as ‘fantastic... absolutely fantastic’ by publicity officer Robyn Robertson after an action-packed two days blessed by good weather and big crowds. The Times was on hand to cover the two days photographically.
