Officers from the Manning Great Lakes Command say they were travelling on the Pacific Highway near Croki about 10pm Monday when a Land Rover Discovery overtook their patrol car at a speed well above the limit.
When they pulled the car over they allegedly saw drug paraphernalia inside.
Officers arrested the occupants of the car – two women, aged 40 and 41 – and took them to Taree Police Station. Their vehicle also was taken to the station.
Officers believe the 40-year-old woman is a Chinese national with an expired visa; the 41-year-old woman is believed to be from Hong Kong.
During a search of the Land Rover Discovery, police allege they found 7.5 grams amphetamine; pipes for smoking methylamphetamine (“ice”); and a large amount of cash.
Both women were charged with supply prohibited drug; possess prohibited drug; and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.
They appeared in Taree Local Court on Tuesday where they were refused bail to face the same court on November 11.
