Fifty years after seeing the Beatles perform to a raucous crowd at Sydney Stadium, Gary Ohlback has just returned from a trip of a lifetime.
The lifelong fan of the band which changed popular music forever spent last month taking part in a 'Beatles Experience Tour' of England and Germany, a three week adventure taking in all the early significant venues and sites which helped to shape the Fab Four into the biggest band of all-time.
The first stop of the tour was a visit to the Indra Musik Club in Germany, the venue where the then up and coming band performed for the first time as The Beatles in 1960.
The group also visited other historic German venues such as the Star Club, where the band performed some of their earliest gigs.
But it was while in London and Liverpool where Gary and the group would truly experience the highlights of the tour.
"While we were in London we visited the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing, and the final day was a walk to Apple Studios where their final concert was held on the roof of the studio," he said.
"And at Liverpool we spent time celebrating International Beatles Week visiting the childhood homes of Paul, John and George, and other places of interest like Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and the Casbah Coffee Club, which was the scene of many pivotal moments in the beginning of the Beatles and where their first live performances took place."
The Beatles tragic, who counts 'Get Back' as his favourite song, said the trip meant the world to him after seeing the Beatles 50 years ago during their only Australian tour.
"I was fortunate to be able to go and see the Beatles in concert in 1964, making the tour that much more special," he said.
The tour was hosted by Australian music guru Glenn Baker and included a visit to The Beatles Story, the largest permanent exhibition devoted to the band.
Gary also saw countless cover bands and their tribute to the Beatles at the various venues on the tour.
