The HSC written exam begins on Monday, October 13, and goodie bags will be given to all local year 12 students prior to breaking up for study vacation.
Bags will be distributed at Taree High, St Clare's High, Chatham High, Wingham High, Taree Christian College and Manning Valley Anglican College during the final week of term 3.
Developed by MYAT, each goodie bag is full of exam resources like pens and rulers, and items from local area businesses like coffee vouchers, sunscreen and gym passes.
"MYAT's idea is to give students additional resources for the exam and the post-exam period," said Jacqueline Clarke, a Wingham High School member of MYAT. "We also include a few items that show the community is thinking of them."
Jane Lynch, youth development officer at Greater Taree City Council, has been thrilled with the contributions. "The response has been fantastic. We've had a range of services and agencies providing goods and information including support services for young people," she said.
"We appreciate the support provided by Bunnings, McDonalds, Taree YMCA, Catholic Care, Manning Great Lakes Skin Cancer Clinic, Mid Coast Communities and Hunter New England Health," Jane said.
"Their efforts have been instrumental in getting the initiative off the ground, and we would like to continue goodie bags in upcoming years."
