The Vibrant Spaces trial is running until the end of February 2015. Shop owners are being invited to open up the streets to lively entertainment, comfortable seating, playful activities and eating choices to basically embrace the outdoors.
A number of shop owners placed items on the footpath and are excited by the results.
Jo-Anne Cumming from Iguana Surf Wear mentioned: "I have sold more jeans from the racks in the streets than what I sold on Crazy Day. People are stopping, having a chat and coming into the store. The results have been surprising."
Manning Valley Collectables was one of the first stores to register for the trial and Bronwyn Rich pointed out that it has made such a positive difference. "It slows people down, and they are stopping to have a look at the items on the footpath. Other shop owners love the atmosphere that it brings to the street."
Casa Loco joined the trial this week and they have already noticed a difference. Owner Jennifer Ryan mentioned that lots of people have commented on the doors off Victoria Street being opened. "We are still experimenting with our displays," noted Jennifer. "Just having the opportunity to participate in this trail is fantastic."
"The trial is already showing positive results," said Richard Pamplin, Greater Taree City Council's senior leader strategic planning.
"Just look down the street and you will already notice a difference. We believe this will continue as more shop owners come on board and participate. We have a team of staff ready to provide advice, so if you need any help please contact us."
