Monday July 30 2007: THE Manning Valley yesterday welcomed the the World Youth Day Cross during its visit in the lead up to Sydney’s World Youth Day celebrations in 2008.

The 3.8 metre cross brought with it messages of peace and unity.
School students and community members from across the Manning turned out to see the crowd when it arrived at Purfleet at noon yesterday.
Pastor Russell Saunders of the Purfleet Community Church described the cross’s presence as a ‘beautiful thing’ for the Manning Valley, Alex Druce reported in the Times on Tuesday July 31.
“The cross just being here is such an occasion is an amazing thing for the entire community,’’ he said.
“It unites youth and elders, men and women, yellow, back and white. We are all Jesus’s children and it is important to remember his sacrifice.’’
Emma Neilson from St Clare’s High School described the day as ‘really moving.’
“This cross means a lot of people all around Australian and the world,’’ Emma told the Times.
“I’m proud that we can be part of this,’’ Father Paul O’Neill of Taree said.
“It is a great thing for the whole community.’’
Betty Howard of Old Bar agreed.
“It’s wonderfully exciting to be part of this. It brings everyone together.’’
