TWO visiting gallopers could upset good recent form of the locals and figure prominently in the $17,000 Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club Taree Cup Prelude over 1624m at Taree Wingham Race Club's eight-race TAB meeting at Bushland Drive Racecourse on Tuesday.

They are five-year-old Broadmeadow mare Caffeina, trained by Jason Deamer who had two wins from as many starters at this club's last meeting and five-year-old mare Eight Skirts from the strong stable of recent mother, Kristen Buchanan, from Gosford.
Port Macquarie's seven-year-old mare Juste Si is aiming for its third win from its past five starts for trainer John Sprague, Rinne Pierre is nearing a win for Port trainer Wayne Wilkes and track specialist, Taree six-year-old gelding Onemore Eightmore, trained by Bob Milligan, was scratched from the $80,000 Coffs Harbour Cup on Thursday to be reserved for this.
It all adds up to an intriguing race with the winner exempt from ballot for the $60,000 XXXX Gold Cup over 2000m at this track on August 24.
But with so many of the runners unlikely to be tried for the cup, Deamer is hoping his mare can win to make it into the field.
"Tuesday's race can be won by my mare as our plan is to get into the cup," he said.
"She has raced up to 1850m but on that occasion, she probably had enough.
"This is her third run back from a slight let-up and she is still improving."
Deamer said Caffeina drew wide at her last start, was well back in the field, and put in a "huge" run at Wyong over 1600m on July 29, finishing a breath in front of Prelude rival Eight Skirts.
The jockey on his two winners at the previous meeting, Paul Hammersley, formerly from Queensland, takes the ride again and the mare has drawn to be given every chance.
Eight Skirts meets Caffeina a kilo better off here than at Wyong and she too didn't have much luck in the run.
Four-year-old mare Rinn Pierre's form is good and she was only beaten about a half-length when fifth over 1400m at Warwick Farm on July 30 and is on trial at the distance.
Wilkes reckons she will run a strong mile and should she keep improving may be given her chance in the $100,000 Port Macquarie Cup over 2000m in October.
"She cruised up to them at Warwick Farm but slowed near the line to be just beaten.
"I have taken the blinkers off her in the hope she will run more genuinely."
Wilkes and fellow-Kendall resident Bill Etcell race the mare which was bought when 10 months old for $1500m and the trainer celebrated a $25,000 race win with Taree-owned and bred mare Danesiri in the $25,000 feature race at the Coffs Cup Carnival on Thursday.
Milligan has opted for a three kilo claim for in-form Port apprentice jockey Andrew Adkins in the hope of making it four wins from six starts at the track for Onemore Eightmore.
The gelding was only 2.4 lengths from Taree galloper Single Spirit in the Sawtell Cup over 1515m at Coffs on July 27 and the winner franked the form with a photo-finish third to stablemate Southern Shimmer, both trained by Taree's Ross Stitt, in the Coffs Cup over 1600m.
Juste Si, ridden by top Port jockey Peter Graham, also won at Coffs in a 1400m race after a short head second here over 1312m and should he get the extra distance, the gelding has to be in the mix in what should be a terrific race.
Deamer and Hammersley combine in the hope of making it two wins straight at the course with four-year-old gelding Lukey in the Terry Evans Racing Class 1 Handicap over 1265m.
I feel Port five-year-old mare First Class To Rio, another mount for Adkins for his master Marc Quinn, will be the hardest to beat.
Lukey is resuming on Tuesday after 129 days spelling but Deamer said the galloper has 'done plenty of work.
"He has a good barrier, should get the run of the race and has done enough to win," he said confidently.
Other good bets on the card could be Perfectly Aligned, trained at Newcastle by Todd Howlett and to be ridden by Coffs Cup winning jockey Robert Thompson in the Eddie's Meats Benchmark 55 Handicap over 2030m and Can I Have from the Wyong stable of Allan Denham in the John's Park Bowling Club Benchmark 60 Handicap over 1265m.
