Aunty Pat touched the lives of so many people, that a fundraising initiative has been organised in her honour in the hopes of seeing "an appropriate headstone and grave cover" for such a special woman.
Pat past away on April 20, 2013, leaving not only a family in mourning, but an entire community and was subsequently recognised by a number of members of parliament including member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead, former NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell and minister for Aboriginal affairs, Victor Dominello.
Husband Ray Hurst expended all his savings to ensure his beloved wife was interned at Redbank Cemetery and her current memorial is a humble tribute to such an influential Australian.
The target of the fundraiser is $15,208 which would enable a larger memorial and tombstone to be built, incorporating a space for Ray.
Nickki Jones is the fundraising coordinator driving the initiative and a meeting was held in May to get things happening.
