Saturday June 29 2002: A LIGHT horse contingent, five jeeps and the Greater Taree City Band led a parade in Taree which culminated in the unveiling of a cenotaph in memory of the national servicemen in the Macquarie Barracks’ grounds. A total of 350 marchers and more than 400 people took part in the commemoration service and afternoon activities, exceeding the expectation of organisers, the Manning Valley sub-branch of the National Servicemen’s Association.

The march stretched from the boundary of the Macquarie Barracks in Muldoon Street half a kilometre west to the Rural Fire Services headquarters.
The parade gave the eyes to OC Colonel Clyde Powditch MBE (ret) who unveiled the cenotaph during the ceremonial services.
