The Chatham Public School student heads to Hobart next week with the State squad. Kalani was a member of the Hunter PSSA team that went through the State championship unbeaten only to lose the final. Later she played for Manning's under 13 team at the NSW division two championship. Manning secured the State title with an unbeaten record and didn't concede a goal.
Kalani is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana.
The State team has a training run on Friday in Maitland to prepare for the Australian championships. They fly to Hobart on Saturday August 2.
Kalani expects to play in the midfield in the titles. She says NSW has named a strong side. While not knowing much about the opposition, Kalani nominates either Queensland or South Australia as the main rivals.
While losing the State PSSA final was disappointing, Manning's win at NSW level partially made up for that. Kalani alternated between the midfield and striker during the championship held at Orange.
She'll be in the under 13s again next year when Manning moves up to division one.
Kalani's been playing hockey for as long as she can remember. She turns out for Sharks in the Manning under 13 and 15 competition.
But hockey is just one of the sports she enjoys. Kalani was a member of the Chatham Public swimming team that made the State finals of the open girl's relay earlier this year.
She's a member of the Taree Swimming Club.
Kalani also enjoys touch football and represented Taree under 12s at the State Junior Cup last February while she's a member of the Black Head Surf Club.
