The series, hosted by Sarah Murdoch and featuring US dance "coaches" Kelly Rowland and Jason Derulo, was comprehensively rejected by Ten's audience.

Ten launched it against the final night of the Nine Network's Olympics coverage and it drew only 598,000 viewers nationally.

Since then it has sunk to around 350,000 viewers.

Ten had asked production company Fremantle Media to tinker with the format in an attempt to resuscitate its low numbers.

But building an audience is difficult from a low base, particularly against mounting criticism of the show and Ten's performance overall.

Ten cut its losses a week ago, pulling the series out of its weeknight timeslot and reducing it to one weekly program on a Sunday night, but it failed once again to fire.

Ten's CEO James Warburton admitted the network had failed.

"Unfortunately, we didn't get the Everybody Dance Now format right," he said.

"Although we worked with Fremantle Media to reset the program, clearly it has not struck a chord with viewers."

The move comes as Ten is weathering its worst performance in recent memory. Its revenue has fallen away and its ratings performance this year, with a handful of exceptions, has been poor.

Warburton said Ten's renewal involved "trying new formats and creating more programming options".

In his statement, he acknowledged Rowland, Derulo and Murdoch's "professionalism and commitment to Everybody Dance Now".

The show will be replaced with episodes of Modern Family and Graham Norton's talk show.
