THE premiere performance of a commissioned musical piece, written especially for the 2014 Manning Winter Festival by composer and former local Andrew Chubb, will be part of the program at the Visual and Performing Arts Awards.

The composition is titled 'Intro and Dance' for oboe, harp and cello and is the first to be commissioned by the festival committee.
The awards evening, which takes place at the Manning Regional Art Gallery from 6pm on Friday, June 20, is a celebration of community creativity and a chance to acknowledge outstanding contributions to the arts by locals.
The three awards to be presented are the Visual Arts Award, the Performing Arts Award and the Special Award (an organisation involved in either visual or performing arts, or an
individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts either behind the scenes, in administration or fundraising , or perhaps over a long period of time).
This year's winners will receive a trophy and their names will be unveiled on the honour board.
Andrew Chubb is an Australian pianist, composer, conductor and teacher currently living and working in Newcastle.
He grew up and was educated in Taree, moving away from the Manning to university and further his studies, ultimately making his career in music as a composer, conductor and teacher.
For the past decade as a pianist, his concert programs have consisted of a diverse range of repertoire from the works of Mozart and Beethoven through to compositions of today.
Andrew's recital programs often deliberately include works of modern composers, some which are relatively unknown to most audiences.
He has given recitals throughout Australia and in Canada including numerous recitals featuring the music of Philip Glass.
Andrew's composition writing has steadily increased over the past 15 years comprising mainly of solo piano works and chamber music.
His music has been performed by a growing number of musicians from around the world including French pianist, Nicolas Horvath, the Sydney based ensemble 'Strelitzia', the Melbourne based 'Tungsten Duo' and the Bremerhaven Ballet from Germany.
Andrew's other activities include a busy teaching schedule in Newcastle where he operates a piano studio and continues to teach at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, University of Newcastle.
He also partakes in examination and adjudication activities along with giving open pedagogical piano classes.
Through Andrew's teaching, many students of various levels from beginner level to Licentiate Diploma, have achieved considerable success in developing important musical and technical skills. Many of his students have been highly successful in competitions and eisteddfods throughout Sydney and regional NSW as well AMEB and HSC music examinations.
Recently, three of his former students studied tertiary level music at Monash University, Brisbane Conservatorium and Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
