Two arrested over Old Bar Tavern armed robbery

Police have charged two men over an armed robbery in Taree.

About 11.15pm Saturday, police were called after four men wearing balaclavas entered a tavern. Two of the men were allegedly armed, one with a mattock and the other a tyre leaver.

They ordered the staff and patrons to get on the ground.

While approaching the bar one of the men allegedly threw a bar stool at the bar tender who picked up the stool and threw it back. Other patrons and staff began throwing objects at the group, who fled empty-handed.

They left the scene in a confirmed stolen Volkswagen Golf.

About 11.30am on Sunday, police inquiries led to the arrest of two Taree men, aged 15 and 18.

They have been charged with assault with intent to rob whilst armed with an offensive weapon, being carried in conveyance in a stolen vehicle, break, enter and steal and other offences.

The 18-year-old was also charged with breach of bail.

They have both been refused bail to appear in court today.

Inquiries are continuing.
