She wants to thanks the community that supported her during the dark days when she was fighting the disease.
And she also wants to help those also battling cancer of all forms.
Erin plays hockey with Taree West. So she’s teamed with the club to conduct a fund raiser billed as Cancer is a Drag at the Exchange Hotel’s Waterfront Room on Saturday, May 17. This will incorporate the Shave for a Cure promotion.
“We’ll have nine drag queens from Newcastle here and they’ll be our hosts for the night,’’ Erin explained.
“I’ve always supported the Shave for a Cure through my hairdressing business. But I thought by incorporating the hockey club we could make it even bigger.’’
Cancer has touched Erin’s family.
“I have a relation who has a blood disorder – the kind the Leukaemia Foundation is pouring funds into for research,’’ she explained.
Nine club members will have their heads shaved.
“Geoff Lucas has volunteered to have his back waxed,’’ Erin said.
“And that’s going to be a major operation.’’
That’ll all happen at 5.30. There’ll be dinner later on at the Waterfront Room along with entertainment and a silent auction.
“Business houses have been really supportive,’’ Erin said.
“We have nearly 30 items for auction and the list is growing.’’
There’ll be a variety of goods for auction including autographed boxing gloves from Danny Green – Erin’s cousin.
Erin can be contacted on 0432 993 388 for further details.
