The Barbarians were without key personnel and then struck injury problems when going down 4-3 to Camden Haven in the opening round at Old Bar. Old Bar led 2-1 at halftime.
The Barbarians will meet last season’s grand finalists Wallis Lake at Boronia Park in the second round.
Taree Wildcats host premiers Macleay Rangers in the second round. The Wildcats, notoriously slow starters to a season, were held to a 2-2 draw by Wingham in the opening match.
Wingham will look to capitalise on their performance against the Wildcats in the game against Camden Haven at Laurieton.
In other games next weekend Port United meets Kempsey Saints while Port Saints tackle Port FC in a local derby.
Reserve grade will kickoff at 1.15 with first grade at 3pm.
